J-ENesis FAQ

This post will be updated with questions and answers regularly. If you still have any questions, please email

Q: I found a bug! What do I do?
Q: I really need feature X! Will it be added in an update?
A: Email

Q: Will J-ENesis be updated to use other EDICT files, such as enamdic, compdic, etc?
A: Probably. If people seem to want these then absolutely. If you want to see more dictionaries included in an update email

Q: Can I use Kanji to write the word I want to look up?

A: Yes! You can enter kanji input by using the traditional Chinese handwriting keyboard. You can activate this from your device's Settings app by choosing General, Keyboard, and then International Keyboards. Once you have enabled the Chinese keyboard you can access it by pressing the button that looks like a globe on the regular keyboard.

You can input kana text by using either of the Japanese keyboards, which can be activated in the same way.

J-ENesis Japanese/English Dictionary

J-ENesis Japanese/English Dictionary is my first and absolute best iPhone/iPod Touch application to date. It also happens to be the best Japanese/English dictionary on the App Store right now.
  • No need for an internet connection
  • Search English to Japanese or Japanese to English
  • Enter Japanese words in romaji (Japanese written with English letters, such as "nihon")
  • Or enter them in kana using the Japanese keyboard mode built into every iPhone and iPod Touch.
  • Intelligent search technology lets you find entries related to what you search for
  • Based on the most popular dictionary for Japanese/English translation

J-ENesis Japanese/English Dictionary uses the EDICT dictionary files. These files are the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, and are used in conformance with the Group's license.

JTek Software open for business!

Well, not exactly. You see, JTek Software is not in any way a legal entity. I like to pretend like I have my own software company, but really it's just me here working on apps for fun and (hopefully) profit.

Anyway, this blog will serve as the web page for all of my personal projects that aren't web pages themselves. In the near future, this will mostly include iPhone apps and maybe a desktop app or two to compliment those. I might also share this blog with a friend or two in hopes of convincing them that real jobs are for suckers.
